Non-Atmospheric Sensors

Non-atmospheric sensors are used to view conditions at the site (cameras), measure traffic information, expand the capabilities of RWIS and add year-round value, as well as determine other important variables specific to your location. Using these sensors with your Road / Runway Weather Information System (RWIS) provides enhanced weather and traffic data for effective management of your roadways or runways. All QTT non-atmospheric instruments are designed for reliable operation in the harsh road / runway environment.

Benefits

  • Accurately determine weather or traffic conditions
  • Provide site-specific data
  • Year-round applications for your RWIS network

Color Video Camera

QTT's color video camera monitors road conditions remotely, allowing you to directly see critical information from clear, crisp images. The color video camera has a fixed field of view and an orientation that is manually adjusted during installation. It utilizes fully integrated on-board frame grabber technology, which allows the same communication link to be used for both RWIS data and video images.

Benefit from all the advantages of vibrant color! The camera has superior resolution, color vibrancy, picture clarity and reliability. Output is available in JPEG via RS-232 or NTSC.

In addition, QTT offers a low-powered camera for solar power applications.

Low-Light Zoom Color Camera

In normal daylight, the low-light zoom color camera from QTT provides excellent color images. It features 23:1 optical zoom, and you can predefine up to 16 zoom adjustments - from wide-angle to detail at a distance. Then from your RWIS server, you may select up to eight of these predefined views and they will be captured and returned to the server for SCAN WebŪ display.

When there is not enough light for quality color, the camera will automatically convert to black and white, allowing better low light images. This feature delivers valuable pictures when other cameras would show only black.

PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) Camera

QTT's PTZ camera enables you to see multiple locations from a single camera. The PTZ camera contains a progressive scan color sensor, auto-focus and composite video output. It has no mechanical pan limits with continuous rotation capability in either direction (rapid 180° tilt and 360° rotation), variable pan and tilt speeds, continuous tilt movement, and auto image rotation.

The PTZ camera has a 23:1 optical zoom lens with 64 zoom, focus, pan and tilt preset positions. You may predefine images by position and zoom, selecting up to eight predefined views for capture and transfer. Low-light features allow the camera to return images at night or during adverse conditions, with images provided in JPEG format for easy viewing.

Snow Depth Sensor

The ultrasonic snow depth sensor from QTT is an inexpensive solution for remotely measuring snow depth or water levels. The sensor measures the time required for an ultrasonic pulse to travel to and from a target surface, providing a more accurate measurement of the change in depth.

An integrated temperature probe with solar radiation shield provides an air temperature measurement for properly compensating the distance measured. The snow depth sensor uses an embedded microcontroller to calculate a temperature compensated distance, and performs an error checking routine.

Water Level Sensor

The water level sensor from QTT is a fully submersible, titanium constructed depth and level pressure sensor that can be used in the most hostile of fluids.

Changes in water level correspond to pressure changes. When a precision voltage is applied, the electrical resistance varies with changing liquid pressure. The resistance is measured and converted to the desired units (i.e., pressure, depth, or level).

The water level sensor also features a vented cable, which eliminates the need to compensate for changes in barometric pressure.

Temperature Depth Probe (TDP)

The TDP is a thermistor type temperature probe that provides a sub-surface temperature profile from 1 inch to a depth of 6 feet (2.54 centimeters to 1.8 meters). This sensor is perfect for areas with weight restrictions during frost conditions. With the TDP you can precisely measure the characteristics of the temperature beneath the road.
