QUIXOTE TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGIES, INC. INTRODUCES THE THERMO-Q NON-INTRUSIVE PAVEMENT SENSOR08-2007 (ST. LOUIS, MO August 2007) – Quixote Transportation Technologies, Inc. (QTT) has released a new non-intrusive pavement temperature sensor known as the thermo-Q. The thermo-Q is designed for non-contact measurement and utilizes infrared technology to detect pavement temperature and provide remote measuring of road surface temperature. Non-intrusive sensors are the latest technology used to determine pavement temperature. The pavement temperature is the most important and most widely used piece of roadway information utilized during winter weather. This technology helps decision-makers determine when pavements will freeze and QTT’s thermo-Q provides accurate readings at an economic value. The robust infrared sensor measures pavement temperature accurately and provides stationary, single target monitoring. The thermo-Q is a smart alternative to an invasive sensor that requires lane closures and cutting of the roadway. The thermo-Q is easy to install and has low maintenance requirements because personnel can be safely on the side of the road while installing or maintaining it. The sensor has the ability to be mounted on an existing road weather station or other structure where a clear, unobstructed view of the pavement is available. Thus, the thermo-Q can be used with your existing SSI® RWIS network (any platform). The thermo-Q was developed to provide reliable readings during any weather condition. The sensor is contained in a weather-proof, durable housing, which protects it from harsh weather elements. “The thermo-Q was designed using the latest road weather technology and provides customers with a non-intrusive option for measuring pavement temperature,” explains Jon Tarleton, Marketing Manager for QTT. “The trend in the industry is roadway sensors that are not placed directly into the road; this improves the safety of those maintaining the equipment and lowers the cost of maintaining them. Our customers can now choose the sensor that best meets all their needs.” About Quixote Corporation
