QUIXOTE TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGIES, INC. INTRODUCES THE TRANS-Q™ RADAR CLASSIFIER10-2007 (DURHAM, NC OCTOBER 2007) – Quixote Transportation Technologies, Inc. (QTT) has released the trans-Q™, a new non-intrusive radar classifier for measuring traffic data. The trans-Qis portable and designed for non-contact measurement utilizing radar technology to detect traffic count, speed, and length. With roadway traffic volumes continuing to increase, making it more difficult and dangerous to install traffic sensors in the roadway or on top of the road surface, the trans-Q radar traffic classifier gives traffic engineers a solution for these challenges while meeting an increasing demand for non-intrusive traffic monitoring technology. The trans-Q classifier is an ideal alternative when other portable or permanent traffic sensors cannot be used because of location, safety or other regulations. Non-intrusive technology allows users to analyze traffic data without sensors in the roadway, which increases the safety of maintenance personnel because lane closures or in-pavement installation and maintenance are not necessary. The trans-Q classifier is easy to set-up on the roadside with a PDA (Palm) and does not disturb traffic flow. The sensor detects all passing vehicles in two directions, obtaining their length, speed and classification. Data is easily retrieved with either a PDA (Palm) or wireless connection (GPRS or Bluetooth). “The trans-Q is simple to set-up and brackets can be left on-site for repeat studies. The unit can be moved easily from one location to the next and back,” adds Mr. Klimko. The trans-Q classifier was developed to provide high-resolution traffic data. Vehicles from two mph up to 130 mph (3 kmh to 199 kmh) are accurately detected and a large memory provides storage for up to 1.2 million vehicles. Its rechargeable battery offers convenience and reusability and solar power is available. The trans-Q system is a mobile radar traffic classifier, but QTT sees future permanent applications.
